The officers gave it a few stern words about being out in the middle of November before leaving the little fella to enjoy his break.

According to KDH News published on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, police officers in Derbyshire were reported by the public after they noticed the animal abandoned by the roadside. They alerted the cops that a "small dog" was tied on top of Slack Hill along Chesterfield Road, near Matlock in Derbys. Concerned about the situation, the cops immediately rushed to the spot, but what they saw left them stunned and amused. Expecting to see a dog tied as told, upon their arrival, the cops witnessed a toy of Sven from the popular Disney film franchise "Frozen."

Nevertheless, the police were left in splits upon seeing the toy being mistaken for an abandoned dog. They quickly shared details of the funny incident on social media about how they found "Santa's reindeer."

The official Facebook post (@MatlockCromfordWirksworthandDarleyDalePoliceSNT) read, "Abandoned 'Dog' update. We have had several reports regarding an abandoned dog at the top of Slack Hill along Chesterfield Road. Officers received a description of a small, bully-type dog that was tied near the junction for the entire day." The cops informed that one of the local SNT officers went to the spot to find a Sven toy, when they were expecting a dog. "Instead found one of Santa's reindeer resting after a test flight over the Dales area. After being given some stern words about being seen in the middle of November, Officers left the fella to his break," they concluded.

Every now and then, police officers stumble onto cases that break the routine and give everyone a much-needed laugh. In another incident, a family in Oklahoma rushed to the cops after their Amazon package went missing from their porch. The officers soon began checking the security footage, expecting to catch the thief; instead, they witnessed a dog casually walk up, grab the box, and trot away. The cops later joked in a Facebook post, "This four-legged bandit took it upon himself to snatch the goods right off the porch."

Soon after Derbyshire cops' post went viral, many users reacted to the hilarious incident. Katie Wallace wrote, "Yet no one stopped to check if an actual dog was tied up. I think it'll be ace to let it stay there, hopefully, when it snows, Sven can catch snowflakes on his tongue. Also concerned about all the reports! I mean, do you all need an appointment at Specsavers?" Wayne Skinner commented, "I pay too much attention to the road or need better glasses as I went that way twice today and didn't see it." Another resident, Helena Evans, remarked, "I passed this morning. It did give me a bit of a 'rubber-neck' but I did realise it was a dummy at the last moment."
