Deaf dog showcases true showman skills by calmly handling a wardrobe malfunction at a school concert

Theater is not for everyone. Only a true showman shall prevail on the stage, and this dog had what it takes to ensure a show’s success. Cole, a deaf Pit Bull, participated in a school concert with other children. While it was amazing enough to see him perform, an unexpected turn of events on stage established Cole as the star of the show and an overnight online sensation. The Pit Bull managed to handle a wardrobe malfunction while remaining calm on stage, hinting at the thespian that he is, regardless of his physical disability.

A viral TikTok posted on his page, @deafcole, showcased Cole, a therapy dog, during a performance. Schoolchildren sang behind him while he charmed the audience with his presence, decked out in a green wrap around his body and a matching theatrical hat adorned with gold. Cole’s plan to move mid-performance was seemingly not a great idea, as the hat slipped over and fell on his face, covering his eyes. While any other dog would go haywire, the deaf pup maintained his stance without breaking character. Another head movement, and the hat almost fell, until the tiny rope hung on the dog’s snout. A hilarious sight.

Eventually, the hat toppled down on the stage, and Cole was back in his true glory. However, the dog’s calm and composed demeanor left many surprised and in admiration of his theater skills. His owner, Chris Hannah, a public school music teacher, marked him as the “Star of the Show” in the post that amassed 7.9 million views. In the comments, a fanfest of jokes and laughter went on to match the energy of the performance. @bethie_b said, “He sure tried to keep it on. I love him,” and @user19572987546 joked, “Who turned off the lights?” “American bulldogs are the best. I know, I’ve an identical to this beautiful boy,” chimed a fellow pet owner (@rusty8148).
In another TikTok compilation, Cole was captured performing in a set of holiday events. The first clip showed the canine pal dressed up as a Christmas present during a school holiday concert. He wore red and green lit-up antlers while his body was covered in a box decked in gift wrap. Unsurprisingly, he breezed through the performances in different characters, further confirming his love for the stage. According to ParadePets, Cole’s love for theater stems from his very cultural upbringing by his owner, Hannah. The latter adopted Cole from a shelter in 2017.

The pet owner was impressed by Cole’s ability to interpret sign language and figured he would be a great addition to his family. Hannah’s nephew was also deaf. Today, Cole assists his music teacher dad at Dr. Mennies School and also inspires him to create the Team Cole Project that spreads the message of empowerment and social acceptance. A dog of many talents, Cole also volunteered at the NJ Veterans Memorial Home and serves as a hospice therapy dog with Angelic Health Palliative & Hospice Care.
