A Gen Z dog mom has raised eyebrows for her commitment to her pet. She quit two jobs because they did not suit her dog’s needs, and has no regrets about it. Samantha, who goes by @bettyscountrytails on TikTok, a page dedicated to her pup's adventures, had one dream: to own a dog. Surprisingly, the passionate dog mom started making big moves in her professional life even before she adopted a dog. Now, she has a reputation for going the extra mile for her Black Lab, Betty.

When she began working at a well-paying real estate job, Samantha, 27, had no qualms with the life she was living. She loved her work, was paid well, and had quickly progressed within the company. Yet, after three years of working there, she realized it was time to move on to her pet-owner dreams. “In October 2022, I left my job in real estate, which was fully office-based, to find something more flexible, knowing I wanted a dog," she told Newsweek. Samantha, who hails from the UK, was looking for a flexible work schedule that would maximize her time with her future dog.

“It wasn't an easy decision to leave, but having a dog was a lifelong dream,” the woman added. Her family and friends supported her, knowing her passion for dogs. Soon after adopting Betty, Samantha got a new job at an animal pharmaceutical company that allowed dogs in the office. While she was hoping her new pet-friendly job would work out, Betty did not quite adjust well to the office environment. The pet owner would head to the office with her pup by her side every day—the ideal job, it seemed. However, Betty struggled to settle inside the office as she always wanted to play and run around with other dogs.

The Gen Z woman noted, "Betty is from a working line, so she has lots of energy and needs stimulation. The office environment was too quiet and restrictive for her. She cried, wanted to play with the other dogs, and didn't settle.” A few months later, Samantha handed in her resignation letter again. Fortunately, she found her silver lining and set up her own marketing agency, which allows her to spend more time with Betty while also taking full control of her career. Ever since establishing the thriving business, Samantha has been able to go on extended walks with Betty, work flexible hours, and also prioritize her well-being.

“This genuinely feels like a dream come true…I know I'm in a privileged position, but it hasn't come without its risks and sacrifices,” she acknowledged. In a viral post with 143,000 views, Samantha listed the “extra” things she spoils her pup with as a pet parent: multiple holidays a year, fancy beds, a bigger car to accommodate Betty, a house with a garden, paying for professional photos, and swimming classes, among others.
