Glamorous influencer brings her huge Great Dane as a service animal on flight — and the internet’s never been more divided

A popular influencer walked onto a plane with her service dog, a Great Dane, leaving her fellow passengers startled. As soon as the video of her extraordinary entrance made its way on social media, it quickly sparked a debate on the dog owner’s conscience. Piêtra Luccas (@petra_luccas), who hails from San Francisco, was set to fly on a United Airlines flight with her dog, allegedly meant to support her with her disability. While the flight attendants and her fellow flyers welcomed her gigantic service dog, Charlie, the internet was barely impressed. 

The viral clip was posted to Luccas’s Instagram page with 2.9 million followers. The fitness influencer walked down the aisle before entering the airplane with her service dog. At the gate, she was greeted by surprised flight attendants who discussed seating arrangements before allowing them to board. “Well, hello! I’ve been hearing about this guy!” said one of them. Luccas took a moment to check if everyone on the flight was comfortable with her dog. She acknowledged that she would sit around people and wanted to ensure “they are okay” with the situation. 

The flight attendant informed her that the supervisor had talked to the passengers about it and hoped it would be safe for everyone. Meanwhile, the person filming the influencer and Charlie cheered from behind the camera, saying, “It’s going to be fine!” With all in agreement, Luccas finally stepped on the airplane, revealing her dog to the co-passengers. People were visibly surprised as they gaped at the big brown Great Dane walking to his seat. Some smiled at him, hinting at their approval, but that’s only one side of the story. 

People in the comments took sides, many criticizing the woman’s act with cruel reactions. “I love dogs, but this is nonsense,” said @fishcop444, and @fkanwal1984 expressed, “How come he is allowed on the plane with passengers? I’m dead scared of dogs; I would never want to travel with one.” Another outraged viewer (@1ladydash) ranted, “I’m so sick of this! If this is going to be allowed, it needs to be flights where it’s only people flying with their dogs. I’m sick of the dogs in the restaurants, malls, etc., enough is enough!” 

The post, however, has been liked by 1 million people and has amassed millions of views. Some users screamed support for Charlie. @barbidahl316gmail.com1 wrote, "The dog seems to be better behaved than the people commenting on this post," and another (@happilyhockensmith) said, "I would rather fly with the dog than with children and most adults!" "I would be so lucky if this beautiful baby were on my flight!" marked @iamhollings. While Luccas has a significant presence on social media, her service dog is no different. Charlie is an Instagram sensation who entertains his 392,000 followers with his daily antics and elegance on his page, @greatcharliedane.
