Stray cat begs woman to let her inside — then her belly showed she wasn’t just looking for shelter for herself

A mutual understanding seemed to develop between the woman and the mother cat.

The cat distribution system, a fun internet concept, basically runs on the idea that a human may never find a cat; rather, the cat finds them. Along similar lines, The Dodo (@TheDodo) covered the story of a woman who was chosen by a stray kitty looking for a safe space. The adorable cat had been scoping out the woman’s house for days until one day she opened the doors for her. As she began dropping by her house every day, the homeowner noticed something peculiar. It had taken her all this time to realize that the kitty was pregnant.

The woman filmed the stray cat sitting outside her lawn occasionally and figured that the animal was assessing her home with her feline instincts. “After about a week, she started coming around more, and she became a little bit more friendly,” the woman said in the video. Waving her busy tail, the beautiful cat with a black and white furcoat hung out with the woman while remaining equally wary of her presence. Oftentimes, she would find her new furry friend perched on the sidewalk until one day the cat hurried inside her home. “I was leaving for work in the morning and she came running in,” the homeowner said.

The cat examined her house, walking around and smelling things to make sure it was a safe place. However, she didn’t want to impose her stay and left as soon as the woman let the cat out through the door. Her visits became frequent, and the woman soon realized the cat was looking for a place to give birth after all. “It’s like she knew she had to ask for help. She needed to find someplace that she felt safe to have her babies,” the rescuer noted, who was enlightened by the fact that a stray cat had “adopted” her. She provided the mama kitty a safe space and even made a small box with blankets for her, in case she wanted to have her babies outdoors.

A mutual understanding seemed to develop between the woman and the mother cat. One day, the cat didn’t want to leave the house, which was a sign that it was “less than 24 hours of having the babies,” the woman shared. Early next morning, the woman found the stray cat using the box and went to put some food out. She hadn’t noticed the kittens until she looked closely. Two beautiful babies lay next to her under her warmth. The mama kitty had a successful delivery all by herself, and the woman was overjoyed.

The woman could not help but observe the kittens as they grew every day. The mama cat had already trusted her human and left her babies alone with the woman sometimes. A rewarding experience! Two safe homes were lined up for the babies' adoption, while she decided on a permanent home for the mama cat. “I’m so proud of the mama kitty for being so brave to ask for help,” the woman expressed. According to Cats Protection, mother cats will often look for a warm and clean place to give birth, a process called nesting, and the space must be semi-enclosed.
