It is normal for newborn babies to resemble a certain member of the family—be it their parents, grandparents, or close relatives. But when a mom-to-be from Lisbon, Portugal, did her first-ever ultrasound scan, she was taken aback by the uncanny resemblance to their unexpected family member. More so, it did not strike her until her best friend, who accompanied her for the scan, pointed it out, and the mom has not been able to “unsee” it ever since. Even the new mom’s father confirmed the similarity to the cherished member of the family.

Inês, who goes by @inesverse on TikTok, opened up about the first time she got to see her baby, which quickly turned into a hilarious affair on October 9, 2025. Excited for the opportunity to be introduced to her newborn, the 26-year-old mom went to the clinic for the scan. Her husband and best friend tagged along. Finally, she witnessed her baby boy and was smitten. He “looked lovely, if a bit alien-esque,” teased Inês in an interview with Newsweek. The mom-to-be revealed that her best friend brought her attention to a strange detail. The baby looked like his elder sibling, the family dog, Goulash.

The couple took a closer look and agreed that their baby did look just like his canine sibling. “Needless to say, it was impossible to unsee after that.” The revelation was funny and caught the attention of intrigued strangers on the internet. When Inês posted the pictures of her scan on TikTok, it quickly lit up the internet, eliciting hysterical reactions with 1.8 million views. “We were so excited for our anatomy scan, only to get our photos back and realize our son looks remarkably like our dog,” she hinted in the post.

“Glad to know your youngest looks like your eldest. No DNA test needed,” quipped @bbykiikz and @hannahlcarroll0 noted, “Family genes run strong!” “Why are you surprised? Siblings often look alike!” joked @jo_062025. In response to the baffled viewers worrying about the picture, Inês explained that the perspective of the scan pictures was “super weird. It’s like from the angle of his chin, to check his eyes and nostrils,” the mom wrote in a follow-up comment. Later, Inês sent the ultrasound pictures to her parents and received a similar response. “My father instantly said the baby looks just like Goulash, too.”

Nevertheless, the mom-to-be is not worried about Goulash’s sibling roles as she noted his gentle and calm nature. “He’s the gentlest dog in the world; all he wants is to sleep and cuddle. I have no doubt he'll be amazing,” she told the outlet. She might have to deal with the ultrasound pictures, which are fueling a running joke in the family, though. “It’s become sort of a running gag that the baby looks just like his big brother,” she said. Inês rescued Goulash when he was 7 months old.
