Police raced to a house after 16 emergency calls in just 30 minutes — and couldn’t believe who had been ‘calling’ 911

911 calls are typically reserved for emergencies, but sometimes, the unexpected happens. In Lakeville, Minnesota, a series of puzzling calls in 2019 caught the attention of local authorities in a way they hadn’t anticipated. The situation seemed serious at first, until officers arrived at the scene and uncovered a surprisingly lighthearted twist that would soon become a community favorite.

The unusual 911 calls all came from a single residence, with multiple hang-ups occurring in a short time frame. When officers were dispatched to investigate, they arrived at an empty house, assuming it was a case of an accidental call. But the scene quickly turned puzzling when they were met with a pair of excitable dogs. iHeartDogs reported that after further investigation, the officers learned that there were sixteen calls in 30 minutes. "Shortly after clearing, dispatch advised us they had multiple additional 911 calls and all they could hear in the background was dogs barking," shared Officer Roberts with FOX 9.

The officers reached out to the homeowner, who was at work, and gained permission to enter the house. Inside, they found the two dogs, Remy, a Papillon, and Bomber, a hound, full of energy and eager to greet the officers. The dogs seemed perfectly fine, but the repeated calls to 911 raised suspicions. As they searched the house, Officer Roberts discovered a cell phone in the homeowner’s office, set to "Emergency Call Only." Upon further inspection, she realized that the dogs might have unknowingly made the calls by pawing at the phone. "So in theory a dog could’ve called 911, and pushed the phone with its paw," she stated.

It seemed that the dogs had gotten bored and, without meaning to, triggered the emergency calls. Once the homeowner was notified, he couldn’t help but laugh at the situation. He also mentioned that he would make sure not to leave his phone unattended again. As Officer Roberts remarked, "Anytime we can laugh and talk about dogs calling 911, if that’s the biggest news of our day, that’s a good day."
While one might typically expect interactions between police officers and dogs to be serious, they can sometimes take an unexpectedly amusing turn. In a recent incident in Albany, Australia, police officers were carrying out a routine task of serving a Violence Restraining Order (VRO) when the family dog decided to get involved. As the officers prepared to hand over the documents, the dog snatched them right out of the officer’s hands and ran off with the paperwork.
Paris Subertin from the Western Australia Police Force explained the reason for sharing the video, saying, “We shared this footage simply for a laugh. Our officers face incredibly challenging situations every day, so when two of them stumbled upon such a funny scene, it was hard not to share.” Although the dog’s playful antics caused a brief delay, the officers were eventually able to serve the VRO. The funny moment quickly went viral, proving that even in the most serious jobs, there’s room for a little humor.
